Formed in 1954, Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC was part of the growth in the St. Andrew’s area. Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC stands out as a rare and powerful living memorial to a woman of deep faith and selfless service. Over the decades, this spirit has blossomed into a robust ministry of care, including a food pantry and clothes closet that opens twice a week to serve the community. Staffed by volunteers from Virginia Wingard and other churches we average —- bags of food (monthly/annually).
VWM’s commitment of care and concern extends beyond food and clothes to partnering with community groups and organizations. We partnered with Richland County First Steps to host its Early Head Start program, supporting young families with education, health, and developmental resources . We welcome MOM (Moms of Multiples), Al-Anon, Alston Wilkes Society, Palmetto Master Singers, Kairos Prison Ministry, and SCADP.
We welcome other community groups to use our facilities for special events,
In a bold, visionary move, VWM transformed its former activity building (the original church sanctuary) into the Broad River Arts Center, dedicating the space to the performing arts after a decade of planning and renovation. This center features theatrical lighting, a stage, a sound booth, and a welcoming space for artists and audiences.
